Use a Thinking Map to explore your favourite story, movie or video game. Show connections between the characters, settings and plot. Find the Thinking Maps here.

Write a prequel or sequel to your favourite story, movie or computer game. What happened before or after the events in the original? Don't forget to include elements of surprise, suspense and humour. Illustrate the chapters of your story.

Mr Burgess has heard that schools in other countries have different length school days. He wants to know what the advantages and disadvantages of a longer and shorter day might be. Write him a letter explaining why a change might be a good and a bad idea. Use balanced arguments - Find out the features of a balanced argument here.

Write a guide for spotting witches. Use 'The Witches' by Roald Dahl as inspiration - but you can add your own ideas too. Include stories of witch encounters, just like the Grandmother in the story tells. Maybe you could include some maps and charts showing further information about witches. There is a link to an audio version of the story below.

Expand your guide to other mythical beings - werewolves, vampires, ghouls, etc

Holes Write a diary entry after your last day at Camp Green Lake.

Create a tourism poster to advertise Green Lake (past setting) - make sure you sell the town to potential visitors. tell them why they should come!

Create a guide to surviving Camp Green Lake - Think about subheadings to write about. Write it in the first person (I, me) telling new campmates how they will get through their time there. Add pictures, drawings and diagrams to explain things.

Write a new short story based on Holes. Imagine you are trapped in a place you don't want to be. What did you have to do there? How did you escape or leave?

Maths

Practise times tables and arithmetic. Use the sample tests in the download section of the Kid's Hub.

Play some maths games suggested here. You don't need a computer to play these.

Begin to lear about fractions - Check out BBC Bitesize for some great guides. This website guides parent on teaching fractions at home.

Write a diary as King Alfred the Great following his victory at the Battle of Edington.

Create a Viking Longboat drawing- you could even build a model if you can.

Design a Viking emblem and design a round shield.

Create a timeline of the Anglo-Saxon and Viking period - include any main events and important people you have researched.

Make an Anglo-Saxon soup with root vegetables.

We were reading The Witches in class. While of course if won't be the same without my 'Grand High Witch' voice making you jump, you can listen to the rest of the story here. We were part way through chapter 14, or you could listen from the start again! Remember to watch out for witches!
