The Ancient Greeks

This half term Sycamore class have been working for Regina Flowerton.  Her fabulous museum was beginning an exhibition on the Ancient  Greeks and she requested that we  help in creating a displays.

Regina found that she was having problems  cleaning Ancient Greek coins which had been uncovered on an  archaeological dig around the Parthenon in Athens.  We undertook the scientific challenge of finding a solution which would clean the coins successfully.

Amazingly Sycamore class discovered that tomato ketchup was the best cleaning solution, closely followed by lemon juice and hand sanitiser.  In English they wrote some exciting Greek myths which have also been sent to Regina.  Sycamore class have looked into how the Ancient Greeks have influenced modern day society including education, the Olympics, mathematics, architecture and democracy.

In art the children have created their own version of Greek pottery. They used art materials of their choice including water colour, poster paint and crayon.  Sycamore class enjoyed studying the Greek gods and finding out about their powers and family histories. .
