Electricity

Olive Stein asked Sycamore class if they would create a Book of Wonder all about electricity. They completed different investigations into what electricity is and how it gets to our homes. They understand that our homes are very different today with the invention of electricity.  They used electrical equipment to build a circuit which can light a bulb and then evaluated different circuits to see if they would work. They looked at different materials to see which would be conductors and which would be insulators and enjoyed putting together the circuit to see which material was a conductor. Electricity can be dangerous so we created posters for younger children to help them understand the possible risks. They understand that water and electricity do not mix and that metal is a conductor and therefore should not be placed against anything electrical such as a toaster. Our Book of Wonder is on display outside the staffroom.  The children wrote wonderful stories this half term based on the book Skellig by David Almond.  They used a range of writing techniques such as using the senses to describe, adjectives, adverbs and imagery.
